1/3000 WW2 ships

A gamer friend of mine recently got some Navwar 1/3000 scale WW2 capital ships. I was fascinated by the crisp detail Navwar managed to cram into these tiny models so imagine my surprise when he stated that as he had no time to paint them up he was going to leave them in black primer. Not one to see such a waste of fantastic models, I immediately offered to give them a quick paint job to at least give them some measure of well deserved dignity. The ships were an absolute joy to paint and each one must have taken maybe around ninety minutes to finish.  They are the British carrier HMS Malta, the battleship King George V, and the ubiquitous Bismark, all in 1942 schemes.

      Thanks Jonathan! I just couldn’t stomach the idea that such detailed models were going to be only left primed. It was more an act of altruism to the models than friendship! 😁

    Mike, lovely job, I particularly like that the lines etc on the carrier are in total keeping with the scale, looks very ‘real’.

      Thanks Norm. The flight deck lines were drawn in white ink using a fine pen. However they were too bright and looked fake initially so I gave them a Vallejo black grey glaze to tone down the white. The result was much more to my liking, giving the flight deck a sort of gritty, used look with what seem partially faded landing lines.

      Thanks very much for your kind words Dean. I’m very pleased how the Bismark turned out and liked the way her camouflage went up all the way to the top of her superstructure.
